Tinubu confers OON on Super Falcons, $100,000 each, $50,000 to each crew member, others
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) honours on each of the 24 members of the victorious Super Falcons and the 11 man technical team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today.
In addition, the president also announced the naira equivalent of $100,000 cash gift for each player, while the 11 man technical team were also given $50,000 each.
They were also given allocation of three bedroom apartments to each of the players and the technical crew.
This is to appreciate their efforts for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final defeating the host nation, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses by 3 goal to 2 in Rabat, Morocco last Saturday night.
“I’ve received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians, and I say to you, thank you for the dedication, thank you for your passion, and thank you for reminding us of the Strength of the Nigerian spirit. Crucial time, crucial victory. On behalf of the great grateful nation, I hereby conferred on the players, the 11 man technical team with national honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
“I hereby direct the allocation of three bedroom apartments to each of the players and the technical crew. In addition, there is a cash award of the naira equivalent of 100,000 US dollars, to the 24 players, and the equivalent of 50,000 US dollar to the 11 man technical crew”, Tinubu said.
Also, the first Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who commended the team said, “Your triumph at the 2024 women, African Cup of Nations in Morocco was not just a win, but a testament of resilience, teamwork and determination. You played with passion, confidence and an unshakable belief in yourselves that it is not over until it is over. The zeal you displayed on the pitch was nothing short of inspirational. I say to you all, well done”.
President Tinubu hosted the Nigeria team led by Captain Rashidat Ajibade and Head Coach, Justin Madugu at the State House Abuja.
The team arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 2:26pm to a rousing welcome from fans and government officials.
